Nursery

In Nursery we learn through hands on experiential learning activities. We enjoy learning new things and having fun with our friends.

For the Platinum Jubilee, Nursery took part in the whole school celebrations. They also created a beautiful card and artwork which we posted to the Queen, and we were so lucky, because she wrote back! An incredible piece of history for the children to keep.

Nursery went on their first school trip to The Natural History Museum, where we continued our learning around their favourite topic, Dinosaurs! The children got to interact with the real fossils and skeletons, counted the dinosaur eggs and even saw a huge T-Rex!

Nursery was back at The Natural History Museum during our summer term. This time they conducted a minibeast hunt and explored natural materials, extending their classroom knowledge of flora, fauna, and insects. We even found some tadpoles which they were very excited to see as they had just finished learning about the lifecycle of a frog.

The Nursery children were out and about again, this time at the London Zoo. This term we have been learning about different animals, habitats, recycling, and climate change. Getting to see these majestic animals up close was a fantastic experience for the children to help them understand that we need to take care of our planet and all the animals and plants in it.

For World Book Day 2022, Nursery came to school dressed as their favourite book character. Even our teachers dressed up! We shared and recounted many stories together as well as identifying the front, back and spine of each of our chosen stories and discussing what an author and illustrator do.

For Science Week 2022, Nursery conducted an experiment- the germs test. We learnt how best to wash our hands and what happens when we only use water compared to using water and soap. The children were able to actively see the germs repel from their hands when they added soap to their experiment mixtures. We also learnt about scientists and the different jobs they do. The children drew their own pictures of what a scientist looks like to them- smashing stereotypes, as well as, exploring different pieces of scientific equipment.

Well done Nursery class and all children at Hampden Gurney for such an inspiring Geography Day!
