Pabulum (formerly CH&Co) took over the catering contract in Sept 2018 and are currently providing dinners to about 180 children and staff. The menu is on a three week rotation, with a salad bar choice provided each day.
The cost of School Dinners is now being covered by the Government’s Universal School Meals scheme for all year groups, including Nursery.

Lunchtimes at Hampden Gurney are staggered with pupils in Nursery, Reception and in Key Stage 1 (up to Year 2) eating at midday and pupils in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) eating on a class-by-class basis starting at 12.15pm. Lunchtime for all pupils lasts an hour.
All the children have access to two choices of hot meal, including one vegetarian option, bread and a salad bar. Pudding is usually fruit but will sometimes be a hot pudding. Jugs of water are placed on all the tables at lunch for pupils.
Hampden Gurney is a NUT FREE school.
Some of our children have severe allergies. Please ensure that your child does not bring foods containing nuts to school, including: spreads, e.g. chocolate spread; cereal bars; some types of biscuit containing nuts; condiments, e.g. satay sauce; cakes containing nuts; Some snack pots containing nuts.
Birthday cakes – you are welcome to bring treats to school to celebrate your child’s birthday. Currently we advise that they are nut free, store bought and in individual portions.
If your child is attending school for the first time and you would like your child to start school meals, then please indicate YES on the CONTACT FORM included in your Starter Pack (under Dietary and Medical Information.) If you have any queries regarding this, please contact the school office.
Packed lunches Packed lunches should be labelled clearly with your child’s name. All drinks must be in an unbreakable container for storage in the school fridge on arrival.
Healthy choices are encouraged. Sweets, fizzy drinks, packets of crisps and chocolate bars should not be included either in packed lunches or as an after-school snack. If pupils are eating foods that are deemed inappropriate, they will be stored in a sealed bag and then given back to them at home time. In consideration of children with allergies, please observe the nut-free policy and do not include nuts, or any traces of nuts, in packed lunches.
Hydration for lessons If children wish, they may bring in a bottle of water to have on their desks. Please ensure that bottles brought into school have a screw or ‘push stop’ lid and are clearly named.
Fruit at playtimes Children in Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 will be offered a piece of fruit during morning playtime. Pupils in Key Stage 2 may bring in a piece of fruit to consume at morning break if they wish. Snacks for after school clubs Children who are attending an after-school club should bring a snack from home to eat prior to the club. Healthy choices are encouraged.
