In Humanities, children in Year 3 are introduced to the Stone Age.
Every child in the class was challenged to become an actual historian, putting their inquisitive minds to work and finding out what was the Stone Age really like. Needless to say, at first, the questions they came up with only elicited more questions but, in true Hampden Gurney tradition, we used our curiosity to take us further and beyond.
The children researched the landscapes, the fauna, the flora and of course, what humans looked like, how did they survive in the much hostile environment and so much more.
As experts, the children set out to produce models of what the early settlements may have looked like and were very good at presenting to the class their finished work.
Geography
The children in Year 3 have been researching about volcanoes and earthquakes. With all the newly acquired knowledge, the class had the opportunity to look at these geographical concepts in a more practical manner by attending a workshop at the Natural History Museum. It was fun, educational and… explosive!
The children also made their own volcano models and used their understanding to recreate eruptions in our classroom.
