Year 6

Congratulations to Isabella N. in Year 6 for winning the Coronation Card Competition with her intricate drawing of the Coronation Crown. Isabella’s design has now been made into the card which will be posted by MP Nickie Aiken to Their Majesties The King and Queen Consort to wish them the very best on their Coronation on behalf of everyone across the City of London and Westminster. Although there can only be one winner, we are immensely proud of the creativity, skill and talent demonstrated by the Hampden Gurney children across all years. Well done everybody!

Geography

Ancient Egypt:

Creative Teaching and Learning Year 6: Cross-curricular links project to Maths, RE, D&T and PSED. Studying, designing and creating Noah’s Ark and using unit conversions to scale down the actual structure of Noah’s Ark.

The life of Shakespeare: Year 6 children have started their work on Shakespeare’s plays. The question was in the air… Who was William Shakespeare? Putting their researcher skills and biography writing flare to the test, they produced pieces that were informative and interesting whilst they practised their writing styles in this genre.

Science: Why is blood pumped around the body? What is carried in the blood? What blood vessels travel oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to the heart and lungs? What things influence heart rate? Why do sit-ups raise heart rate less than running? How might we investigate heart rate? Hampden Gurney’s year 6 children use scientific methods to answer these questions and understand the topic of blood and circulation.
